markzuckerbergFacebook has hit a new milestone: 150 million active global users.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in his blog yesterday that his social networking site had hit another huge milestone. Over 150 million people are now actively using Facebook and nearly half of them use Facebook every day. Most of Facebook’s new members now come from outside the United States. Facebook has now members from every continent, even Antarctica. If  Facebook were a country, it would be the eight biggest country in the world just ahead of Russia, Nigeria and Japan.

When we first started Facebook almost five years ago, most of the people using it were students in the United States, Zuckerberg said. Today people of all ages, children, their parents and their grandparents use Facebook in more than 35 different languages and 170 countries or territories. Reaching a milestone like this is obviously a big victory for Zuckerberg and the Facebook staff. The company insists that it’s in solid financial shape to handle this kind of growth.
